Cough remedies are supposed to soothe irritated tissues of the lungs, bronchial tubes, remove obstructions, phlegm and mucus form the respiratory tract.
Coughing is how the body remove irritants in the respiratory tract.
In itself it is really a cleansing process.
Therefore you should never suppress it completely. It is better to get rid of phlegm and mucus than allow it to stay inside of your body.
Suppressed phlegm will serve as a breading ground for microbes.
Cough may have various root causes. If it comes as a result of viral infection, pollution, or a change in the temperature then it is dry. Bronchitis also produces dry cough.
In flu, cold and chest congestion, the cough is “wet” and “loose”.
In asthmatics frequent coughing accompanies a feeling of suffocation, and a difficulty breathing.
Coughing is frequently a side effects of some prescription drugs, such corticosteroids.
Lobelia in a tincture form is probably one of the best natural cough remedies.
It is famous for being able to remove obstruction from the respiratory system. It is good to relax smooth muscles of the upper respiratory tract.
Therefore Lobelia is useful in asthma.
Used regularly it may help reduce the need for prescription inhalants.
In Western Herbology Lobelia is considered a very good bronchodilator (will open your respiratory passages) and a very effective expectorant.
In my practice I find that Lobelia promotes discharge from the respiratory system quite well. It will dissolve and help the body to expel even hardened, stale phlegm and mucus.
And so I nearly always include it in cough remedies I recommend.
Lobelia is a must for smokers.
It may even help quit smoking.
Mullein and Marshmallow.
Both contain mucilaginous substances which protect mucous membranes and prevent them from absorbing toxins.
Mullein is said to posses antibiotic properties for the upper respiratory tract. Marshmallow soothes irritated tissues relaxes bronchial tubes and helps remove difficult phlegm.
Licorice is what you may also wish to try.
Licorice historically belongs to family of natural cough remedies.
Caution! This herb is not for everyone though. Use caution if you have high blood pressure or heart disease. I also do not recommend it for diabetics (although it will be helpful in hypoglycemia, low blood sugar level).
Licorice has been used in cough and cold preparations as an expectorant.
Certain components of Licorice show in vitro anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and anti-asthmatic properties.
It also shows in vitro antimicrobial properties.
For cough you should use Licorice Extract (water and 15% alcohol).
You will need about up 1 teaspoonful diluted in wine glassful of water, 3 times daily.

Your kitchen will provide some known natural cough medicines. Here is a recipe that I personally used many times to a great success:
Mix 1 spoon of honey with 1 spoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Add a bit of powdered cayenne pepper (capsicum annum). The amount of cayenne should depend on the individual tolerance level. Mix well and slowly eat the mixture.
This recipe works awesome for sore throat as well.
Well, I guess in that part of the world people in general don’t mind the garlic/onion flavor and aroma!
Use either one. Crush it well first and then mix with honey. Leave standing for a couple of hours.
Consume a half of teaspoon 4 – 5 times daily as needed.
Or have you?! Let’s see…
Nano-Silver, similar to a colloidal silver, but much more powerful, can be used to treat any bacterial or viral infection.
If this is why you are coughing, use 1 part of nano-silver liquid mixed with 1 part of distilled water.
It is critical that you use distilled water only!
Gargle for about 6 minutes and just swallow the liquid.
You really should take a good look at this absolutely amazing supplement.
In addition to relieving cough, sore throat and runny nose, the nano-silver will annihilate any invaders. It works wonders.
At that exact time my daughter (then 13) has been sort of diagnosed with the swine flu.
“Sort of” because we were told to assume this was the swine flu, as no other strain was present around at the time.
Nevertheless her symptoms were consistent with the flu.
That included a horrible dry cough.
I put her immediately on a program that included the nano-silver.
1 teaspoon full 5 times daily. She was good 2 days later!
